Continue ReadingClub volleyball season is at full pace and several tournaments were held in Texas this past weekend. Among them was the Skyline Classic #10, which reunited some 17s teams of the state at the Houston Skyline facilities on Saturday.
It was a small field tournament with only 18 teams entered and events like this present a rare opportunity for volleyball fans to spot some hidden gems in the early stages of their careers. Prep Dig was there and will provide our traditional tournament reports during the week.
Here are the opposites who got the job done on Saturday.
Jazilyn Davis – HJV 17 Premier – 2022
Jazilyn Davis would probably be the unofficial MVP of the tournament if there was such a thing. HJV 17 Premier’s opposite was unstoppable all day and showed all of her power at the right side of the net. A left-handed, six-foot-tall scoring machine, Davis has such a heavy arm and was nearly flawless, converting even when the sets weren’t ideal.
Kendall Howes – HVA Comets 17 Red – HS: Kinkaid – 2022
Kendall Howes’ strong game at the net helped HVA Comets 17 Red finish second in the tournament with only one loss in four matches. The 5’10” opposite has a very quick arm and showed great ability to score in the most important moments of matches. She hit the ball in any direction as if very productive on the left side too, providing her coach with some interesting flexibility. At the high school level, she plays as a middle-blocker.
Kerigan Baumgartner – TEXSTAR 17 – HS: St. Joseph-Victoria – 2022
Kerigan Baumgartner was an important piece in a TEXSTAR 17 team that had more potential than it was reflected on their 1-2 win record. Baumgartner didn’t have a ton of scoring responsibilities with her team but used her explosiveness well when she was at the net. Her backcourt game was well above average, though, and helped the team reach the right balance between offense and defense.
Dylyn Narcisse – Texas Twisters 17 Royal – HS: Seven Lakes – 2022
Dylyn Narcisse did a good job in offering an interesting attacking alternative to Texas Twisters 17 Royal. Deployed as an opposite, she showed great ability to hit quick sets either in front of or behind the setter and made their offense very unpredictable. Her good side also proved important when blocking.
