The teams have been complete by having players being solid in all phases of the game. Let’s take a moment and look at these teams.
Rancocas Valley (BCSL)
Rancocas Valley have not been taking days off as they’ve already played six games already in this early season. The team is 6-0 and 3-0 in conference. The team has been challenged when they played a three-setter with Cherry Hill East. Other than that, it has been smooth sailing. The team is led by senior setter Joshua Milke who spreads the ball around to keep opposing teams off-balance and unknowing where the ball is going.
Bergenfield (Big North)
Next up is Bergenfield. These boys have been dominant in their four matches this season including three conference victories. Bergenfield utilizes two setters to ensure one is able to set if the other setter is “dead”. Justin Pauli leads the team as the offensive focal point on the outside. The team has gone so far by riding Pauli.
Christian Brothers (Shore)
A team who has made a couple early statements is Christian Brothers. The squad is 3-0 but have two high-quality wins already in East Brunswick and Fair Lawn. The matches were tight but the team showed plenty of resolve to finish off both squads. Jack Dooling was a name I suggested to keep an eye on and he has delivered early on in the season. However, the best part of this squad is how everyone chips in defensively.
Hunterdon Central (Skyland)
Hunterdon Central have been pushed in several of their four matches but they have come out on top in all of them. The team is going to be looking back on these tight matches further down the road as examples to draw upon for them to be successful. A team of all-upperclassmen led by junior Corey Paulson. His precision passing and high volleyball IQ has ensured the team is making the right play each point.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood (UCC)
Lastly, we have Scotch Plains-Fanwood, who have been the most dominant early-on this season. The team is 5-0 and 4-0 in conference without dropping a set. The team truly has not been tested yet. A team that is much more on the younger side than the other teams on this list but the team is extremely balanced with six players being solid contributors offensively already on this young season. It makes them difficult to stop with all of the depth.
