We still have some ahead but the fact everyone has done what was asked of them, even when they didn’t like all of it shows how dedicated everyone was in getting a season in. This weekend Show Me National Qualifier heads to Kansas City for the 15-17’s age divisions. Last weekend, The 11-14’s and the 18s got things rolling. What’s exciting is the ability to cover some of the teams and players live this weekend! Here are some things I love forward to seeing this weekend!
The 15s and 16s Live and Direct
The 16-year-old age division missed most of their seasons last spring and summer. I didn’t get to see them at all as I joined the Prep team in April. Over the course of the season, I’ve been able to catch quite a few matches via video but there is nothing like live-action to go with your evaluation. The 15-year-old age division is another group I look forward to seeing this weekend. I’m currently in the process of updating the Class of 2024 rankings and this will be the first run at seeing many of them in person. Who will make an impression and help shuffle up the rankings even more?
15 USA Should Be Competitive
Mavs KC 15-2 enters the USA division already holding a region National bid. Invasion 15-1 was close to capturing a bid in their last qualifier. Shockwave VB Academy took home the regional title a few weeks ago. Rockwood Thunder Navy and HPSTL Orange are strong contenders representing the Gateway Region. Mix in Madfrog Black and Oklahoma Peak 15-1, you have a strong field.
16 American and the Fight For 1 Bid
I’ve always been curious about the 1 bid thing for this division. This division typically has the most teams and only one can walk away with a trip to nationals. There are many region teams we look forward to seeing live. Rockwood Thunder White has been impressive this season. Mizuno Club North 16-1 is a team we saw on video earlier this season and curious to see how far they’ve grown. Missouri Juniors 16-1 is a squad we noticed playing in Gateway Region league play this year and they found success. Summit Volleyball isn’t a household name yet, but their play between a couple of age groups is putting people on notice…and 16-1 is one of those teams.
The Obvious
15 and 16 Open are must-watch this weekend. Between the regional teams of KC Power, Dynasty, and Rockwood you add the Nebraska teams such as Premier and Elite. Additionally, Skyline, NORCO, and Northern Lights are in the mix so find a way to eat your popcorn behind your mask.
