In the 16 Open, Legacy 16-1 ADIDAS put itself second after losing a very close final to NE Elite 16 Top Gun 28-26, 25-22.
Michigan Elite 16 Mizuno landed in fifth place, closing out its tournament with a 25-23, 25-17 win over Circle City 16 Purple.
Between the two programs, here’s who stood out the most last weekend in Missouri.
Harper Murray Harper Murray 6'2" | OH Skyline | 2023 State #2 Nation MI , OH Legacy – No surprise here, as Murray is the most consistent performer in this class, perhaps in the nation. She had 90 kills while hitting .301 for the weekend, but also passed a very strong 2.6. Murray also added 11 blocks and continues to showcase her overall skills on the big stage.
Paige Elliott Paige Elliott 5'6" | S Country Day | 2023 State MI , L/DS Legacy – Legacy has had some injuries defensively and was without Sarah Vellucci Sarah Vellucci 6'0" | OH Novi | 2023 State #97 Nation MI heading into Windy City. Elliott hadn’t been able to practice much prior, but really was the unsung hero for Legacy over the weekend. Elliott passed a 2.0 for the event and was great with her effort and energy in the back row.
Abby Reck & Laurece Abraham Laurece Abraham 6'1" | MB Country Day | 2023 State #111 Nation MI , MBs Legacy – It’s hard to note one over the other, as both were really dominant at times. Each finished with 40 kills for the tournament. Abraham hit an outstanding .562, while Reck hit an impressive .352. Their dominance worked defensively as well, slowing a number of opposing attacks.
Becca Apsey, RS Legacy – Apsey continues to be a great compliment to Murray on the outside. She put down 52 kills for the weekend while hitting .373. Apsey also put up 11 blocks, adding to that fierce defensive front the team already has.
Neele’ge’ Sims, MB Michigan Elite – Sims has been a story of perseverance. She’s fought her way back to the court this club season and is playing at a very high level. For the weekend in Missouri, Sims hit .365 and combined for 29 blocks along with her fellow middle.
Olivia Gardner Olivia Gardner 6'2" | MB Dakota | 2023 State MI , MB Michigan Elite – Gardner was the partner in crime with Sims this weekend, hitting .349 for the event while joining Sims for a total of 29 blocks. Gardner and Sims both have a great read on their hitters and were making a number of plays in both aspects of the game.
