Christian Brothers Attempting to Separate from the Field
The squad who is at the top of the rankings just put an emphatic exclamation point at the end of the regular season as Christian Brothers dominated Old Bridge. Old Bridge is presently #4 on the Prep Dig Rankings but the match never seemed like Old Bridge had a chance as they fell 25-19, 25-13.
Colin Stevens led the way with 23 assists as he made it look effortless out there spreading the ball around with pinpoint precision. Christian Brothers had four players with 5+ kills yesterday to make it almost impossible for Old Bridge to guess where the ball was going.
This match was a statement for the Central Group in the State Tournament as these two squads are the top two squads in the group. Can Old Bridge be able to regroup in time for the tournament to get another crack at Christian Brothers?
Ridge Rallies Again!
I think Ridge may have found their recipe for success against the teams at the top. It may be that they need to fall behind in the first set which makes them play with a different sense of urgency. This time Hillsborough fell victim to Ridge’s rallying cry.
Hillsborough swept Ridge earlier in the season and it started out like it was going to be the same until Ridge took their game to another level to win 19-25, 25-17, 25-19. Now, Ridge just needs to find a way to get off to faster starts or to play with their come-from-behind mentality from the beginning.
Ben Grossman led the way with 11 kills while Brendan Davy had six kills, a block, eight digs, an assist, and seven aces. Davy was all over the court making any play he could to help out the squad. As I’ve mentioned several times that Ridge is going to be the squad that has been battle tested the most this season. Watch out for them in the state tournament.
