“What?”
“There’s only one national bid from the Hoosier Region. Why are you mentioning Union?”
That’s a fantastic question, voice in my head. I talk about players from Indiana, and with Union traditionally having a good portion of their players from this side of the Ohio River, I’m accurate in what I’m writing. What most DON’T know is that Union plays in the Pioneer Region. According to Advanced Event Systems, they’ve accepted their bid, so here are four players that I like.
’23, Kylie Minnis Kylie Minnis 5'10" | OH Floyd Central | 2023 State IN , 5-10 OH, Floyd Central
As a three-rotation right side and occasional middle, Kylie will most likely be a pin attacker at the next level. Her full varsity season this past fall was a great gauge to what she can do later in her career, and with the great majority of the Highlanders returning their squad this coming fall, Miss Minnis will be a bigger part of that expected success.
’24, Ellie Priddy, 5-10 MB/OH, Silver Creek
I’ve only seen Ellie as a middle, but she’s listed as both on Union’s website. No matter; she’s fully capable of playing both and, with that standard Union volleyball IQ in tow, can be a multi positional hybrid for the semi-state finalists from last fall. She’s known nothing but winning at the high school and club levels, and should make a bigger impact next fall. Stay tuned.
’24, Lilly Tappel, 5-9 OH, Providence
The first of two Pioneers on this list, Lilly should be seen as a full-time, six-rotation outside when she plays in college. Her ball control is above average, her ability to hit multiple shots is a pleasant surprise, and Miss Tappel has also known nothing but winning throughout her career. Providence was also a semi-state finalist last fall, and should look to return to glory with the majority of their roster returning.
’24, Makenzie Wagner Makenzie Wagner 5'10" | RS Providence | 2024 State IN , 5-9 S/RS, Providence
This left-handed gem of a player does all things from the right pin well, and can step in a set as needed. Because of her size, some may be turned off by her pin defense against bigger outsides, but Miss Wagner’s setting abilities and offense far outweigh the misgivings in her height. I anticipate she’ll be a full-time right side for the fall, as Grace Purichia Grace Purichia 5'7" | S Providence | 2023 State #149 Nation IN has that position locked down until she graduates.
