For the first time this season, I had the opportunity to go watch these teams compete in person. I will be spotlighting the athletes from 2022, 2023, and 2024, who were an impact in their position and made an impression when watching.
MIDDLE BLOCKERS
Emily Blagg, 5’8”, MB/RS, McNary High School, North Pacific Juniors- undersized
Blagg was a physical and vocal presence on the court for the NPJ 16-1 National team as their middle blocker. Although a bit undersized for a typical middle blocker, she jumps high and does a good job working around the block. She is bouncy and athletic. You may also see Blagg attacking on the right side.
Blagg made the varsity squad at McNary High School this past season, after spending her freshman season on junior varsity. She was awarded Mountain Valley Honorable Mention by PrepDig.
Blagg is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2023.
Tatum Chase Tatum Chase 6'1" | MB Catlin Gabel | 2023 State OR , 6’0″, MB, Catlin Gabel High School, Athena Volleyball Academy
Chase was a difference-maker in the middle for the Athena 17-1 National team at Regionals. She was one of two non-2022 athletes on the roster. She has a hammer of an arm and moves well on the court. Skill aside, she brings a ton of energy on and off the court, always hyping up her teammates.
Chase has been on the varsity team since her freshman year at Catlin Gabel High School. She was awarded Lewis and Clark Honorable Mention this past season as well as 3A Second Team All-State by PrepDig.
Chase is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2023.
Mia Fedota Mia Fedota 6'3" | MB St. Mary's Academy | 2023 State OR , 6’3”, MB, St. Mary’s Academy, Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy
Fedota was a beast in the middle for the OJVA 16-2 team. She definitely uses her stature to her advantage and is a commanding presence, both offensively and defensively. She has a great snap on the ball and puts up a strong block.
Fedota made the varsity squad at St. Mary’s Academy this past season, after spending her freshman season on junior varsity. She was awarded Three Rivers Honorable Mention this past season.
Fedota is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2023.
Caitlin Kirkpatrick Caitlin Kirkpatrick MB Sherwood | 2023 State OR , 6’0”, MB, Sherwood High School, Portland Volleyball Club
Kirkpatrick was a difference-maker in the middle for the PVC 16-1 team at Regionals. She is athletic and moves well.
Kirkpatrick made the varsity squad at Sherwood High School this past season, after spending her freshman season on junior varsity.
Kirkpatrick is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2023.
Olivia Maulding Olivia Maulding 6'2" | MB LaSalle Catholic | 2023 State #90 Nation OR , 6’2″, MB, LaSalle Catholic High School, Athena Volleyball Academy
Maulding was an impact player for the Athena 16-1 team as one of their middle blockers. She has a powerful attack with a hammer of an arm. She also does a good job mixing up her attacking locations. She is an impressive blocker and manages to take up a lot of space with her hands.
Maulding has been the starting middle blocker for LaSalle Catholic College Preperartoy since her freshman year. She was named to the 5A Second Team All-State by PrepDig.
Maulding is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2023.
Hannah Wilborn Hannah Wilborn 5'10" | MB Mountainside | 2023 OR , 5’11”, MB, Mountainside High School, Athena Volleyball Academy
Wilborn brought the heat in the middle at CEVA Regionals for the Athena 16-2 team. She is an athletic and dynamic middle attacker.
Wilborn made the varsity squad at Mountainside High School this past season, after spending her freshman season on junior varsity.
Wilborn is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2023.
Tessa Zimmermann, 6’1”, MB/RS, West Albany High School, North Pacific Juniors
Zimmermann was a force in the middle for the NPJ 16-1 team at CEVA Regionals. She is quick in transition and turns the ball to right back with ferocity. She also puts up an impressive block, strong and impenetrable.
Zimmermann made the varsity squad at West Albany High School this past season, after spending her freshman season on junior varsity.
Zimmermann is currently not committed to a school for the fall of 2023.
