Continue ReadingIt will be a quick turnaround for young volleyball players in the state of Texas. Shortly after one month from the conclusion of the club season, these prospects will be back on the courts again representing their high schools.
It will be exciting to see some well-known names establishing themselves even more in the Lone Star state volleyball scene and some new faces breaking through and quickly emerging to earn the spaces.
Between now and the start of the high school season, at the beginning of August, we’ll highlight some players we believe are worth your attention when teams get back on the gym. We start with setters from the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 1A Division.
Ruby Rumohr – HS: Blum – Club: NRG Volleyball – 2024
Ruby Rumohr wasn’t fazed by the task of leading Blum on her first season of high school volleyball and expect her to be back even stronger in 2021 with more experience under her belt. The 5’9” setter was tremendous for the Bobcats, taking the team to the State Championship final and ending the season with 1,017 assists and 102 aces. Her spectacular performance was rewarded with a handful of awards, including a Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All-State Team selection, a Texas Sports Writers Association (TSWA) All-State Second Team nomination and a District Most Valuable Player nod.

Jolie Frosch – HS: D’Hanis – 2023
Jolie Frosch wasn’t too far behind when it came to putting her hitters in good position to score last season. The 5’6” D’Hanis setter was a stats monster herself, registering 837 assists for the Cowgirls and bringing her total with the team up to impressive 1,688 in just two seasons. Frosch is very consistent with her location and her sets go always to the same spot, making life easier for hitters. She also had a massive contribution in both scoring points, with 69 kills and 74 aces, and avoiding them, having registered 155 digs for her team. Expect her to be in leading position with her team again and much of D’Hanis’ success will depend on strong performances from Frosch.
Jasmin Chavez – HS: Leverett’s Chapel – 2024
Jasmin Chavez is another young, up-and-coming setter from the state of Texas who showed a lot of promise during the last high school season and is expected to do even more in her second opportunity to compete among the state’s best. The skilled setter has put up some great numbers for a freshman and impacted basically every aspect of Leverett’s Chapel’s game adding 257 assists, 192 digs, 55 kills and 32 aces. One of her most interesting traits is her ability to improvise and work with imperfect passes.
