The high school season is exciting for any rising senior class. It’s a chance to see which athletes can step into a leadership role as the most experienced players on the floor. Many players reach a new level in their final seasons. The athletes on this feature are good candidates to do just that.
Let’s meet some of the stock risers and potential movers in the Class of 2022.
Mia Mroczek Mia Mroczek 6'2" | MB Elkhorn South | 2022 State NE – 6’2 MB – Elkhorn South
Mroczek’s stock as a middle blocker has soared over the past year. Her dramatic move up the rankings reflects this. The Loyola Maryland commit will have a big role this fall as she looks to help the Storm take another Class A title.
Harlei Cole Harlei Cole 5'6" | DS/L Papillion-La Vista South | 2022 State NE – 5’6 DS/L – Papillion-La Vista South
Standout performances in both high school and club over the past year rose Cole’s stock tremendously, and that ultimately helped her land at a Big Ten program. The Iowa-bound defensive specialist with be a vital component of Papio South’s backcourt for one last year.
Masa Scheierman Masa Scheierman 6'0" | OH York | 2022 State NE – 6’0 OH – York
Scheierman has perhaps as good a chance as anybody to have a high-impact senior season. After putting up one of Nebraska’s best kill figures a year ago, the senior outside hitter will be eager to lead York back to the state championships.
Ital Lopuyo Ital Lopuyo 6'7" | MB Omaha Central | 2022 State #134 Nation NE – 6’7 MB/RS – Omaha Central
Despite the Omaha Public Schools athletics season getting derailed by COVID-19 last year, Lopuyo has still managed to put her potential on display in recent months. She got plenty of reps at opposite during this year’s club season and is well prepared to play a couple of different positions at the next level.
Jordie Nekl Jordie Nekl 5'5" | DS/L Columbus Lakeview | 2022 State NE – 5’5 DS/L – Columbus Lakeview
This Nebraska-Kearney commit has a great opportunity to finish her career with a title at Columbus Lakeview. Behind Nekl’s leadership, the Vikings will surely solidify their contender status early this fall.
Brynn Glock Brynn Glock 5'8" | S Ashland-Greenwood | 2022 State NE – 5’8 S – Ashland-Greenwood
Glock was an indispensable contributor to Ashland-Greenwood’s journey to last year’s Class B semifinals. Expect more of the same success from this talented setter.
Savannah Shelburne Savannah Shelburne 5'7" | S Gretna | 2022 State NE – 5’7 S – Gretna
Shelburne is another rising senior setter who should put together a memorable finale to her career. Gretna looks to be healthier and more experienced heading into the 2021 season, which should allow Shelburne to flourish.
Meg Raabe Meg Raabe 6'0" | RS Marian | 2022 State NE – 6’0 RS – Marian
Raabe has climbed in our rankings after an impressive showing in this year’s club season. That should translate to a productive senior year before this right-side hitter heads to Michigan Tech.
Taylor Bunjer Taylor Bunjer 5'10" | OH Elkhorn | 2022 State NE – 5’10 OH – Elkhorn
2020 was a special year for Elkhorn, with a lot of standout seniors leading the Antlers to the state tournament. This fall, the team may look to Bunjer for veteran guidance. The Wayne State commit has the talent and the drive to help maintain Elkhorn’s winning ways.
