Continue ReadingWe are back at another run through of looking into some of the state’s rising Libero group and the talents that they are currently bringing to the table when they step foot out onto the court. These athletes are not only some of the best liberos when it comes to their rankings, but I also take into the consideration of the split talents they share between their fundamental training and foundational training.
Kylie Martin- Illiana Christian High School
Martin is a name that I am starting to become rather familiar with when it comes to the performance that she puts on when she steps out onto the court and brings that ball alive. Martin is without a doubt a rising elite athlete who has managed and continues to manage to make herself a stat leader. It shows in Martin’s performances that she is a very diverse player on the court. This previous week, Martin has managed to snatch the 1st place ranking in Illinois for Digs, with 231 digs this season. Martin averages roughly 5.9 digs per set and she is only going to increase that number with it only being early in the season.
Libby Conkle– Maasac County High School
Conkle is a newer name and face for me when it comes to looking into the various talent that is spread across the state, however, I am glad to have come across her name. Conkle is a very defensive and attentive athlete when she is out on the floor and she is a very interesting player to watch in how her body moves across the floor. Conkle is without a doubt another athlete who can be seen as a rising elite player through the fundamental training that she currently has. This season, Conkle has been seen in 16 sets with 132 digs thus far. Conkle is averaging 8.3 digs per set and about 18 digs per game. This is impressive for the sophomore, getting a great start to her season and to her overall career. I am excited to see what she brings to the table during the duration of the season.
Zenn Wilson– East Alton-Wood River High School
The 5’4″ senior is another athlete who is one I am going to keep close eyes on during the duration of this season. Wilson is in the final season of her high school season, and I am curious to see what performance she puts on this season, as she is currently making a good debut thus far. Wilson has been seen in 13 sets with 96 digs this season, averaging 7.4 digs per set. So far, her career log has Wilson seen in 64 sets played with 360 digs and 255 serve receptions. Wilson is going to only get stronger and finish out her final year with a bang.
Sam Johns– Pontiac High School
Johns is another athlete who is new to my radar and is another athlete to watch as she is in her final season of her high school career. Johns has been seen in 11 sets with 90 digs so far, cumulating the most of her digs against Morris High School, last week. Johns is going to be an athlete to watch as the season continues, because she has a job to do and that is to show up and do her best to land her name into the hands of a coach. I am interested to the damaged that she does as her season continues.
