Ohio County now stands at a solid 8-8 record which makes them 6th in region three while Daviess County has a 12-7 record which sets them first in their region. Here are five athletes that should be highlighted from this match.
Josie Newcom Josie Newcom OH Daviess County | 2023 State KY – A 5’11 junior outside hitter from Daviess County, Josie Newcom Josie Newcom OH Daviess County | 2023 State KY , was for sure the MVP of the match. Her vision on the outside allows her to perform at such a high level. She knows where the block is at all times, and as an outside, that’s critical for success. Josie knows when to tool the block, tip in the middle of the floor, or hit into the seam and having those shots makes her a strong attacker but even more hard to defend for the opposing team. Her numbers just prove her talent. Newcom had 21 total kills in just 3 sets and added 9 digs with 2 service aces. Keep watching out for this stud on The Lady Panthers squad.
Lexi Owen- Another junior from Daviess County, setter, Lexi Owen, put up some star numbers in their win against Ohio County. In just three sets, this athlete had 33 assists and added 2 blocks with 1 service ace. Owen’s speciality is the way she does the little things right. Just watch her play. She squares to the ball and finishes her set every single time, and that is something you can’t find very often. These little things make a big difference in the tough matches. Lexi Owen constantly shows leadership as well because she does her job as a setter whether it’s hyping up the hitter that’s struggling or knowing when to set the big guns on the team. Owen’s role is pivotal on the team and definitely one reason why Daviess County has so much success.
Adylan Ayer- The third junior in the trio for Daviess County is Adylan Ayer who had an impressive match against Ohio County. She totaled 9 kills and added 2 blocks. Ayer is a true two-sport athlete where she loves both basketball and volleyball. The athleticism Ayer has is simply amazing. Watching her play middle and easily soaring to get from pin to pin is just something that you can’t teach. Also, Adylan’s determination and passion for the game is remarkable. You’ll never get tired of watching these three juniors from Daviess County!
Heaven Vanover- A senior from Ohio County, Heaven Vanover, was a force in the front and back row. Something interesting about Vanover is her ability to hit from anywhere on the court. The Lady Eagles would set her on the outside, in the middle, and run her out of the backrow. She specifically ran back one’s which you could tell was her forte because it created space for her to hit any angle. Vanover tallied 7 kills, 3 blocks, 15 digs, and 2 service aces. What’s even more impressive is that she is a MIDDLE, and she put up the MOST digs for the whole team by just being back there three rotations. You can tell by watching her that she has the mentality of, “Don’t let the ball hit the floor.” Every coach wants that, and every coach would find joy in watching this talented girl play volleyball!
Camryn Kennedy- A true athlete from Ohio County, Camryn Kennedy, has played every position for the varsity team and showed out against Daviess County. She runs a 6’2 with other setter, Caroline Law, but also hits in the front row as a right side. Kennedy had 6 kills, 4 blocks, 13 assists, 7 digs, and 2 service aces. When one kid can add depth to every phase of the game, that’s when you know you have a baller. Kennedy’s talent is jumps setting which keeps the pressure off the passers, so even if the ball is tight, she can still manage to run the offense. Keep an eye on this multi-talented player!
