One of our missions at Prep Dig is to highlight as many teams and prospects as possible around the state, from State Championship contenders and household names to underdogs and special talents who might be flying under-the-radar.
We spend a lot of time at the gyms gathering information and watching matches and will use this space to highlight some of the teams and players we got to watch in person. It’s time we analyze the Jersey Village Falcons.
Jersey Village Falcons
The Falcons from the Jersey Village High School located in the northwest region of Houston compete in the Class 6A, Region III – District 17, where they have won two of their first three matches. The group of players coached by Carrie Schneider has won 14 and lost 10 games so far in the season.
Players to Watch:
Gabriela Mansfield Gabriela Mansfield 5'4" | DS/L Klein | 2022 State TX – Libero – Club: Houston Skyline – 2022
A new addition for the Falcons this season after she transferred from Klein, Gabriela ‘Gaby’ Mansfield is one of the best liberos in the state in her class. Her speed and technique are so impressive that she manages to take up half of the court in serve receiving, giving the team a lot of offensive freedom. His defensive game is also spotless and very fun to watch as in the same play she goes from digs that look simple and easy because of her superior positioning to absolutely spectacular ones, flying after the ball. A Rice commit, she ranks 64th in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings.
Katie Roque – Middle Blocker – 2022
Due to her tremendous leaping ability, Katie Roque looks a lot taller than her 5’8” frame. The Jersey Village middle blocker has unbelievable physical tools, which make of her an excellent blocker. A great reader of the game, Roque not only moves extremely fast at the net, but is also to put up a huge block in front of opposing hitters – constantly placing her head above the net. Offensively, even though she’s versatile enough to hit from left or the right as well, there’s still some word to be done when it comes to consistency.
Elianna Freeman – Outside Hitter – 2025
Elianna Freeman is leaving a very good impression in her first season of high school volleyball. The 5’8” outside hitter is not yet an undisputed stater for Jersey Village, but every time she steps on the court is easy to notice how the team’s energy changes. Very expressive and positive, Freeman has the ability to change games with her intensity and offensive play, especially her skills to tools opposing blocks. Her backcourt game is still a work in progress, but she’s got time to improve it and a very high ceiling if she manages to do it.
