Continue ReadingThis year we were able to have a full tryout and pre/regular volleyball school season. The season is now in full swing and we couldn’t be more proud to see all of the action. We will be highlighting a few teams that have a chance to do something very special this year if it all works out. Today we bring our attention to the MacArthur High School volleyball team.
The MacArthur Highlanders are coming off of a very great volleyball season in 5A last year as they made it all the way to the State tourney. They went 22-11 overall last season and everyone saw the young talent that they had coming in this season to make waves on the varsity team. Head Coach Cat Shleton was there last year and got a taste of what it takes to get to the state tourney and is hungry to get them back there. They have a very good shot as they have been ranked number one this year in 5A. Here are a few players who they will rely on to take them over the top:
Alexis Williams [2024] 5-10 Middle (HS: MacArthur/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Alexis is a ranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings but I will wait to write which number she falls at since we will publish the rankings this week. She plays for MacArthur High School. Miss Williams is a very gifted middle that is a big weapon for the Lady Highlanders. They like to run her on a two tempo attack out of the middle and she has the body control and athleticism to turn on the ball in either direction that her blockers aren’t in. She scores at will and is one of the main reasons why they are ranked number one in the state in 5A right now. Alexis has a great chance to keep moving up the rankings as we watch her progress over the next few years. Keep your eye on this young lady as MacArthur looks to stay hot this season.
Bailey Lowder Bailey Lowder 5'11" | OH MacArthur | 2024 State OK [2024] 5-10 Outside (HS: MacArthur/Club: Oklahoma Charge/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Bailey is currently a ranked prospect in the 2024 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings and we will announce where she falls once we release the rankings this week. She is a fantastic pin attacker for both MacArthur and also the famous Oklahoma Charge program. She is getting double digit kills in a lot of the matches so far this year for MacArthur. This young lady can flat out ball on the court. She gets a lot of one on one’s with the stellar play of their middles and she makes the defense pay regularly by getting on top of the ball and crushing it for a kill. We like everything about her and can’t wait to cover her for the next few years.
Carmen Villarreal [2022] 5-10 Outside (HS: MacArthur/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Carmen is currently unranked in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She plays for MacArthur High School and is a great pin attacker for them. She has a HUGE cannon in the right arm and unleashes it against every opponent. We really love how she uses that super strong lower body to get up super high in her approach. She really understands how to create momentum and loads up well in order to increase her vertical. The power that she has in that right arm has to be discussed. College coaches should take a serious look at how much power this young lady has. We think she will be a force in the state playoffs during her senior season.
We like them because they have some serious firepower in their offense and it is tough for teams to stop. The OSSAA has them ranked number one overall in 5A after three weeks of action as they are currently 25-4 overall. I think it is safe to put your bets on the fact that they will be in the mix for the state title. We are going to love covering them this season and are looking for some fireworks from that potent offense.
