Continue ReadingClass 4 will go through the Springfield area once again. With the top 3 teams from the SWMO area, Willard has knocked off #2 and #3 already this year. A couple of other contenders will look to dethrone the defending champs, but it will be a challenge.
1. Willard 26-3-1
The defending state champions are back at it again this year with losses to Helias, Lebanon, and Nixa, all teams that could win districts for Class 5. Logan-Rogersville looms in the districts a team that took Willard to 5 earlier in the year. Coach Hancock won her 600th game earlier this month, so the program leader knows how to win.
2. Logan-Rogersville 18-11-1
Eleven losses seem like a lot for a team ranked this high, but those L’s are not bad losses. With losses to Republic, Willard, Nixa (twice), Bentonville West, AR, Olathe East, KS, Kickapoo, Webb City, Eureka, and Borgia. Most Class 4 teams would lose those as well. The big picture was the 19-25, 17-25, 26-24, 25-12, 8-15 setback to Willard. Willard and Logan-Rogersville should lock horns again for the district championship next week.
3. Carl Junction 23-10
Do not let the record fool you on this team, too they have lost to some powerhouse programs this year. Willard, Nixa, Har-Ber, AR, Lafayette, Eureka, Ozark, Kickapoo (twice), and Logan-Rogersville have all knocked off the Bulldogs. The loaded schedule should help come playoffs, and a return trip to the quarterfinals is in their sights.
4. St. Pius X (KC) 23-2-2
The Warriors have run through the season minus the defeats to Platte County and St. Teresa’s Academy. They also turned around and beat Platte County and knocked off Grain Valley and Pleasant Hill (twice). Look for a final district match-up with Kearney next week.
5. Farmington 22-5-1
Another team that can get hot and runs to the final four will have to knock off another ranked team to win districts. In districts, Fredericktown will stand in the way, but Farmington already has a 3-1 win over the Blackcats.
6. Nerinx Hall 17-10-4
If you can look at the overall picture of the Markers defeats, you will see the level of competition has been there all year. With a repeat trip to Cape within reach, Nerinx Hall will need to get past one loss Windsor in districts. Nerinx Hall gets the nob over Windsor because of the strength of the schedule.
7. St. Pius X (Festus) 19-8-4
Most teams will look past the Lancers because of the number of losses. St. Pius X has a history of making the playoffs, and the pieces are there to do it this year. First, they will need to win districts that feature North County. Both teams lost to Pattonville in the North County tournament but did not meet each other.
8. Windsor 26-3-3
The Owls are seeking a trip to Cape after making it two years ago. The only loss has been to St. Pius (Festus) and Lutheran South which came in the final week of the regular season. A match-up with Nerinx Hall looms in districts next week.
9. Smithville 24-5-5
Savannah 20-10-2 will do what they can to knock off Smithville next week in districts, but Smithville already owns a 3-0 over the Savages to start the season. Since a loss to Odessa, the Warriors ended the year on a 17-1-2 record.
10. Fredericktown 27-6-1
Having the best season in over a decade, the Blackcats will have to battle a team they have lost to twice already. In a conference match-up last week, Farmington just knocked off Fredericktown 24-26, 25-22, 20-25. After starting the year with 17 straight wins, they cooled off the 2nd half, going 10-6.
