There have been some amazing tournaments and great district battles. We have been talking to coaches, reading tons of stats, and getting lots of video submissions from parents and players regarding how everyone has fared over the course of the season. As we are funneling into the end of district play and about to head into the playoffs, we will be discussing some players who are being nominated for our inaugural Prep Dig Texas All-State Awards. Our end-of-season awards are going to be different because we are going to consider all divisions/conferences/classes together and pick the best of the best. The outside hitters we will be discussing have been tearing it up and proving themselves all season long with some amazing statistics. Let’s meet some of the nominees:
Avery Shimaitis Avery Shimaitis 5'11" | OH George Ranch | 2022 State #142 Nation TX [2022] 5-11 Outside (HS: George Ranch/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: Pepperdine)
Avery is currently listed as the 50th ranked overall prospect according to the Prep Dig State Rankings list. We have profiled her a few times and here is a little from the articles, “She is a part of the famed ten foot club as she can get up to 10’2”. Avery is a dominant attacker for her Skyline team and for the Longhorns. She can bang with the best hitters in the area. Avery is a six rotation outside hitter and excels on the court. Her strength is undoubtedly her power. Her upper body is built for the left side. She will be a force for the foreseeable future for a college team. She deserves to be looked at and put on someone’s short list. She’s able to run high powered offense from the back row and she has this awesome and deceptive across her body off-speed cut back shot toward the deep zone one corner from the left side that she scores with. It is extremely deceptive and scores well. She will definitely keep the firepower going this coming year for the George Ranch Longhorns. She plays for one of the best club teams in her age group in the nation and when you watch her play, you will see why. We are happy to report that she has just recently committed to Pepperdine University. We are excited to watch her grow and get better so she can have an immediate impact in college. Some athletes let up a little once they reach the pinnacle of their high school years when they finally verbally commit to a college. Not Avery…she has turned the volume button way up and is killing it during her senior season. No one has been able to stop her as she is leading her team in kills. The season is only half way complete and she has already surpassed last years totals in kills.” She is leading the entire state in kills during her senior season regardless of size of school. She already has 608 kills and the season isn’t even done yet. This young lady has doubled her kill total from all of last year and the best part is how efficient she has been doing it. She has a .328 hitting efficiency against some great competition. She is just flat out the best hitter in the entire state right now. We are going to keep our eye on her and see what she does in the playoffs. Congratulate her on being in the running for All-State due to her play.
Currie Marusak Currie Marusak 5'10" | OH Amarillo | 2022 State #130 Nation TX [2022] 5-11 Outside (HS: Amarillo/Club: Amarillo Elite/Verbal: Texas Tech)
Curry is currently listed as the 46th best prospect in the state. Miss Marusak is a high-flying left side attacker from the Amarillo area who plays at Amarillo High School and also for Amarillo Elite Volleyball club. We profiled her a few months ago when we added her to the State Rankings and here is a little of what we wrote, “ She is committed to playing at the next level with Texas Tech and will be a star for them when she suits up next season. The athleticism that Currie possesses will make the casual observer stop in their tracks. When you first look at her frame you would not expect the raw power that she hits the ball with to come from her. She has excellent ball control with her attacks as she is able to turn on the ball in mid-air and drill the line with authority. The Red Raider program will love her bouncy lower body and she will be a stud for them the moment she walks on campus. We are happy to have her in the Prep Dig family now and will be watching her senior season closely and reporting on her play. Please help us congratulate her on her State Ranking.” When we got introduced to her earlier this year, we were very impressed. But, now that we have been watching even closer, our jaw is on the floor with her numbers. She is the second leading scorer out of all left sides in her class across the state. She has tallied 564 kills on a very impressive .314 hitting percentage. She definitely deserves to be in the running for All-State consideration. Please help us congratulate her and see how she fares when we give out the awards.
Allyson Scheidle Allyson Scheidle 5'11" | S Tivy | 2022 State TX [2022] 5-11 Setter/Outside (HS: Tivy/Club: Alamo/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Ally is currently ranked as the 76th best prospect in the state of Texas according to our Prep Dig State Rankings List. We recently wrote an article about her earlier in the summer, “Ally is a wonderful prospect as a five foot eleven setter from the prestigious Alamo Volleyball club out of San Antonio. She was the 2019 district 26-5A Most Valuable Player. She can do it all on the court. She is a fantastic setter and a great hitter also. She loves to start out at a very deep touch point to start her attack and it allows her to gain so much momentum to use for added power on her swing. And boy does she have some power on that attack. If there is a split in the block, the opponent has almost no chance. I truly love the way she times her block on the right side versus the opponents outside. She reads the approach so well and times almost perfectly on the block. It is a great sight to see for a coach. She is rapidly rising on our rankings also due to her ability to play every spot on the court. Her ball control out of serve receive is amazing and she can dig just like a libero. Someone will scoop her up really soon so I hope all of you coaches take note of her name now. For someone to be named the MVP of a district as a sophomore, it says a lot about her abilities on the court. In three years as a starter on her varsity quad at Tivy she has obliterated the stat book. She has amassed 1285 assists, 202 aces, 841 digs, and 984 kills. She will be one of the all-time greats to play at Tivy when all is said and done after her senior season. She is also a very accomplished beach volleyball player. I firmly believe she could compete at the next level in either sport if a college is in need of a stellar all around player. Whether you are watching her highlight reels or in person, she will wow you.” This young lady is playing her way into the conversation of All-State Awards by her offensive skill-set. She already has surpassed the 500 kill mark on the season and is not slowing down any as they march toward the playoffs. She also has 500 digs on the season as she shows that she is a true six-rotation player. We are definitely keeping our eye on her as she has shown us through her play on the court that she is a star.
There are many more amazing players that will be nominated. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes to see who ends up with a chance at one of the prestigious awards.
