There have been some amazing tournaments and great district battles. We have been talking to coaches, reading tons of stats, and getting lots of video submissions from parents and players regarding how everyone has fared over the course of the season. As we are funneling into the end of district play and about to head into the playoffs, we will be discussing some players who are being nominated for our inaugural Prep Dig Texas All-State Awards. The setters we will be discussing have been tearing it up and proving themselves all season long. Let’s meet some more setters that have been nominated for All-State consideration:
Averi Carlson Averi Carlson 6'0" | S Lovejoy | 2022 State #3 Nation TX [2022] 6-0 Setter(HS: Lovejoy/Club: Dallas Skyline/ Verbal: Oklahoma)
Averi needs no introduction to anyone who follows high school volleyball. This young lady is currently ranked as the best high school prospect in the state of Texas according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. In our previous articles we have written the following, “Former national sophomore of the year is no stranger to success. Her lengthy frame allows her to be extremely deceptive when deciding to push the ball in front or behind her. She is such a gifted setter with extremely soft hands that led her high school team to a state title as only a Sophomore last year. This year she has her Dallas Skyline team running at a great pace against some great Texas Club competition. If you want to see a ball come off of a player’s hands smoothly, check this one out. She moves on the court as if she was born there. While it has taken a great deal of work to get to this level, she still makes everything look so easy. Oklahoma is getting one of the best setters they have ever recruited in this young lady. She will lead this program to greatness over the next few years since she is only a junior. Watching her in action in person this summer at the Girls Junior National Championships really puts everything into perspective. She deserves every accolade she gets as she will likely have every opportunity to start her Freshman year at Oklahoma. In the meantime, she has some history to make during her senior season. Stay tuned to see what she does.” We have been watching very closely and this young lady is proving that she has some serious skill in every aspect of the game. She is showing some amazing hitting and defense to go along with her sensational setting ability. This young lady is filling up the stat books during her senior season. She has 152 kills on the season and is on pace to have more than she had the last two years combined. Go ahead and add 50 aces, 287 digs, and 699 assists to those awesome numbers for this season that is not even done yet. Lovejoy is currently 32-6 overall and 11-1 in district and will be in the hunt for their third consecutive State Title.
Maddie Waak Maddie Waak 5'10" | S Katy | 2022 State #36 Nation TX [2022] 5-10 Setter (HS: Katy/Club: Houston Skyline/Verbal: LSU)
Maddie is currently ranked as the 3rd top overall prospect and second best setter in the 2022 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. We wrote a few articles on Maddie last year as she earned player of the week during her junior season and here is a little of what we said, “Miss Waak sets for a very talented Houston Skyline team. Her team won the Open division of USA Volleyball Nationals last year and she is huge reason why. She is one of the most decorated setters in the country by almost every volleyball publication there is. When I say she is college ready at this time of her career, trust me she is college ready. The way the ball comes out of her hands is simply amazing. She sets a quick tempo with ease and her location is pinpoint accurate each time. There is no question why she is so decorated as a player. She makes her teammates that much better. Maddie is the real deal and if you haven’t seen her, make your way to her court when you can. LSU is getting one of the best setters in the nation with Maddie. This young lady is no stranger to accolades. She has been an All-American from other publications for a couple of years now. She has also been a 1stteam all district player for Katy since she burst on the scene for them. Nothing has changed since we wrote the articles and the biggest reason for the move up the rankings has to do with what we saw in person this summer at USA Nationals. She shined with her Houston Skyline squad and it was very apparent to everyone in the gym that this young lady can flat out ball. The way she leads, the way she never gets flustered, and not to mention her physical touch on every ball blows you away in person. The LSU commit will do wonders in the SEC but we are lucky enough to watch her compete for one more campaign during her senior season.” This young lady is the model for consistency as she has been the same dominating setter/hitter every year for Katy since she burst onto the scene as a freshman. This is the true mark of a great player. She is not a one or two year fluke, but a wonderful/amazing volleyball player. This year she already has tallied 219 kills, 56 aces, 45 blocks, 404 digs, and 737 assists (just a few). If you read those stats, you see why she is in the running for All-State consideration. Please congratulate her for being nominated.
Olivia Arredondo [2022] 5-7 Setter (HS: Antonian/Club: SA Juniors/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Olivia is currently an unranked prospect in the State according to our class of 2022 rankings, but is playing her way into consideration for the list. She has what it takes to be on it during the next update. She plays at Antonian Prep high school and plays club for the up and coming San Antonio Juniors club program. She has her varsity program currently sitting at a 38-7 overall record and are also 4-0 in district. This young lady has been putting on a clinic this year as she has tallied 1206 assists, 28 aces, 76 kills, and also 266 digs. That assist number is the second most in the entire state for every division amongst seniors players. While she may be small in stature, she plays a very big game amongst giants. Her location is what is key to her game. It doesn’t matter where she is on the court, her ball will be in a great location for her hitter no matter the tempo. We are proud to announce that due to her amazing stats and production on the court, she is in the running for All-State consideration. Please congratulate her on the achievement.
There are many more amazing players that will be nominated. Stay tuned for more articles on your favorite athletes to see who ends up with a chance at one of the prestigious awards.
