One of our missions at Prep Dig is to highlight as many teams and prospects as possible around the state, from State Championship contenders and household names to underdogs and special talents who might be flying under-the-radar.
We spend a lot of time at the gyms gathering information and watching matches and will use this space to highlight some of the teams and players we got to watch in person. Today we’ll feature the George Ranch Longhorns.
George Ranch Longhorns
The Longhorns from the George Ranch High School in Richmond were one of the most talented teams in the Houston area this season. The team coached by Cheyanne Forshee did extremely well in league play, ranking second in the competitive Class 6A, Region III, District 20 with 12 wins and just two losses, but was upset by Cinco Ranch in the bi-district playoff round, crashing out with a 28-14 overall win record for the season.

Players to Watch:
Allie Sczech Allie Sczech 6'4" | RS George Ranch | 2022 State #41 Nation TX – Right Sider – Club: Houston Skyline – 2022
Anyone following high school and club volleyball in the state of Texas knows how well Allie Sczech Allie Sczech 6'4" | RS George Ranch | 2022 State #41 Nation TX can play as an opposite. What many of those couldn’t imagine is how good of a setter she could become with a single season playing the position. The 6’4”, left-handed prospect embraced the challenge and did very well on it, developing a surprisingly wide variation of sets and plays in such a short time. Hitting when at the net, Sczech conserved her ability to score in big moments and her excellent blocking game. The Baylor commit, which ranks sixth in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings, ended the season with 523 assists (5.2 per set), 231 kills, 101 blocks, 227 digs and 41 aces.
Logan Lednicky Logan Lednicky 6'1" | RS George Ranch | 2022 State #133 Nation TX – Right Sider – Club: Houston Skyline – 2022
Another talented and versatile senior in George Ranch’s squad, Logan Lednicky Logan Lednicky 6'1" | RS George Ranch | 2022 State #133 Nation TX also helped the Longhorns in a variety of ways. The 6’2” lefty was mostly seen on the right, but also spent time in the middle and even setting in a couple of rotations. Only an extremely technical player could do all of that and that’s exactly what Lednicky, a Texas A&M commit, is. Ranked eighth in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings, she has a very complete game and perhaps the most impressive aspect of her game is her offense as she makes contact with the ball at a very high point and has a fantastic ability to find unlikely angles with her left hand. Lednicky ended her high school career with massive production, registering 180 kills, 63 blocks, 226 digs, 300 assists and 20 aces.
Avery Shimaitis Avery Shimaitis 5'11" | OH George Ranch | 2022 State #142 Nation TX – Outside Hitter – Club: Houston Skyline – 2022
Avery Shimaitis Avery Shimaitis 5'11" | OH George Ranch | 2022 State #142 Nation TX completed George Ranch’s ‘Big Three’ of seniors and was the most prolific scorer in the entire team. A 5’11” outside hitter, she excelled for her offense, which combined immense power, especially when she hit angle, with intelligent plays tooling the block or just tipping the ball into an open are of the court. One of the most interesting things on Shimaitis’ game is that despite being highly used (she was set a whopping 1,611 times this season), she manages to keep her errors at a very low rate. She’s also solid in the backcourt and can play all six rotations. A Pepperdine commit, she ranks 50th in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings and amassed 694 kills, 362 digs, 359 passes, 99 blocks and 51 aces in her senior season.
