Continue ReadingThere is always a little bit of a lull during the high school season when it comes to commits. Athletes might be taking visits, colleges are busy with their own season, and between high school state tournaments, tryouts, club prep there’s a lot going on for everyone. In less than a month, club tournaments will start, and the dial is cranked back up. D1 coaches will be quiet until Presidents Day Weekend (February 19-21), but prior to is the time all levels can recruit. I don’t like to label athletes as if they are “Power Five”, “Mid Major”, D2, D3, etc. Everyone needs to find their fit, but I know these athletes will be quick to go once they find their fit to start out 2022.

Cordelia Kearns Cordelia Kearns 6'1" | OH Oconomowoc | 2023 State WI – VC United
Kerns is coming off a state championship for Oconomowoc (WI) in Wisconsin’s largest class where she was a big time point scorer from the outside. She knows how to use the block to score and shows no fear when it comes to bringing a big attack. Her game has improved in the backcourt where she is solid in serve receive and can also provide a big swing out of the back as well. Her upside is high and she is one who can score points from either pin, she played some rotations out of right side and showed she can be effective in multiple ways.
Autumn Flynn Autumn Flynn 5'11" | MB Luxemburg-Casco | 2023 State WI – FC Elite
Flynn is another 2023 coming off a state championship where she has been part of back to back to back state championship teams at Luxemburg-Casco. Flynn brings a really physical style where she can really command the net. Whether its a quick tempo in front of the setter or a slide, Flynn has an aggressive style where she can score points in bunches. She did play on the outside early this season to fill in for an injured teammate which was fun to see her take a big approach and swing away. She will be playing 18 Open with FC Elite 18 Elite who is coming off a final eight finish at nationals last year.
Jordan Heatherly Jordan Heatherly 5'10" | S Montini Catholic | 2023 State #89 Nation IL with such a heavy swing from the right side. Gets the kill and will set from the backrow. @MontiniVB pic.twitter.com/VMUCDx2kTE

Jordan Heatherly Jordan Heatherly 5'10" | S Montini Catholic | 2023 State #89 Nation IL – 1st Alliance
Heatherly has so many positives to her game. Another state champion, Heatherly is a dual threat where she can set and swing. A big, heavy left handed swing from the right side can provide plenty of point scoring opportunities for her team. I’ve seen her live for high school and club (1st Alliance) and she always brings plenty of energy and positive intangibles. Players like Heatherly just know how to make a big impact when needed.
Vanessa Del Real – 1st Alliance
So smooth. Del Real is a top 2023 libero playing for Crown Point High School in Indiana and played with 1st Alliance in the 2021 club season. Very athletic, but also plays with extremely efficient movement. She knows how to control her platform and just glides on the court. Whether its serve receive, taking pace off a hard swing, or putting up a clean second ball, Del Real knows how to get it done.
Ava Schubert Ava Schubert 6'1" | RS Assumption | 2023 State #153 Nation IA – Iowa Select
Schubert has been on the radar since she entered high school. She’s been to three state volleyball tournaments and two state basketball tournaments. A real physical athlete. The Junior from the Quad Cities, playing for Davenport Assumption High School brings a big left handed swing. What sets her apart is her ability to play six rotations and provide a swing that can score from right back. She will be in attendance at the Iowa Top 250 this weekend and will play for Iowa Select 18 Mizuno this club season.
Kamryn Chaney Kamryn Chaney 6'0" | OH Marist | 2023 State #79 Nation IL of @RedHawkVB is full of power but goes with the change up to win set two for @RedHawkVB – we’re going to three! pic.twitter.com/clgmmpkaCF

Kamryn Chaney Kamryn Chaney 6'0" | OH Marist | 2023 State #79 Nation IL – Michio
It just sounds different. Kamryn Chaney Kamryn Chaney 6'0" | OH Marist | 2023 State #79 Nation IL has a violent swing, her power is tough to match. She can split the block or just go over the block as well. I was last able to see her at the Asics Challenge in October and she had plenty of booming swings, but she was also able to score with some finesse with tips and rolls. As she continues to expand her backcourt game she is going to be a major pick up at the next level.
Zoe Behrendt Zoe Behrendt 5'11" | S Whitefish Bay | 2023 State #113 Nation WI – Milwaukee Sting
Behrendt has always been extremely consistent and solid as a setter for Sting’s top Gold teams. She was a USAV All Tournament selection after Sting finished in the final four of 16 National. She is a total floor general where she commands her team and knows how to get her squad in the right position to score points. She will be on Sting 17 Gold this year and another setter to have on the radar is Elena Dragani Elena Dragani S Catholic Memorial | 2023 State WI where the two will make a really solid combo.

Kyla Dunaway Kyla Dunaway 6'4" | RS Kimberly | 2023 State WI – FC Elite
Dunaway received offers for basketball early in her career, but is now on the radar of plenty of volleyball programs, shifting her focus to 100% volleyball. At 6’3, Dunaway plays big on the right side where she can really terminate. She has all the different angles and a high contact point. She will be playing for FC Elite 18 Elite where they have built their team to run a 6-2 that would feature Florida commit Kennedy Martin Kennedy Martin 6'6" | OH Nation Ford | 2023 #23 Nation NC (6’6) and Dunaway (6’3). This will be an extremely long and physical team.
Sylvie Zgonc Sylvie Zgonc 5'11" | OH Sussex Hamilton | 2023 State #115 Nation WI – Milwaukee Sting
Zgonc is going to come back to the club circuit looking like a different player than she was in early 2021. She has gotten taller, stronger, and still has the explosive attack that will allow her to score plenty of points. Her game is similar to a Jordan Berglin, a former Sting player who is now a top Freshman for Flagler in Florida, playing in the National D2 Tournament this week. Zgonc will be key to the Sting success when they get out of system with how she can make something out of nothing.
Kara Erdmann Kara Erdmann 5'6" | DS/L Forreston | 2022 State IL – VC United
I saw Erdman play at the Illinois State Tournament for Belvidere North with plenty of other top athletes from VC United. She is well trained at a high level and knows how to maneuver her platform to let her setter run the show. VC United has a strong tradition of top level liberos where Erdman falls right into that category.
Jessica Parker Jessica Parker S St. Charles North | 2023 State IL – Fusion
Parker is an extremely dynamic setter who played for Fusion for the 2021 club season. She moves well, gets her hands to the ball, and knows how to set all the tempos right on the nails. Her footwork is solid which allows her to jumpset and have a really quick tempo for her offense. Part of her being dynamic is that is can play a variety of positions when needed and is a very solid defender.
