Here are five athletes that have made major strides since the last update in August, and should make major impacts during the ’22 club season.
Allie Shondell Allie Shondell 5'9" | S McCutcheon | 2024 State #78 Nation IN , 5-9 S, Boiler Juniors, McCutcheon
In a matter of two high school seasons, Allie has gone from “freshman setter on varsity” to MaxPreps Second Team All-American. All she’s done is (1) earn All-State honors, (2) guide McCutcheon to their first state title, and (3) get the attention of multiple Division 1 programs. I underestimated you, Allie. When I make a mistake, I’ve learned to own up to my errors. Miss Shondell, you have my apologies. Better yet, you have all of our attention. Keep that greatness going.
Marin Sanchez Marin Sanchez 5'10" | OH Andrean | 2024 State IN , 5-10 OH, Epic United, Andrean
Another state title winner and All-State honoree, Miss Sanchez got stronger as the high school season moved on, and became the primary attacker in the state title match in November. Her length and all-around athleticism allow her to learn the game at an advanced rate, and she’s still getting stronger. By this time next year, she should be on all schools’ radars as a primary-passing, six-rotation left side that you can’t be without.
Alaleh Tolliver Alaleh Tolliver 5'11" | OH North Central | 2024 State IN , 5-10 OH, Academy, North Central
The first of two Panthers, Alaleh has absolutely burst onto the scene with her jumping ability and athleticism alone. She’s a full-go attacker, and is slowly learning defensive and serve receive concepts to make her an all-around stud. I love kids like this; you can always coach a kid willing to take risks to get better. She might make errors, but they’re GREAT errors, and her learning curve is through the roof. I can’t wait until club season comes around so that I can watch her progress.
Whitney Scherrer Whitney Scherrer 6'2" | S North Central | 2024 State IN , 6-1 S/RS, Academy, North Central
OK, OK. I know what Santa told me about representing different clubs more, but hear me out. I’ve been high on Whitney since her freshman year in high school, and, along side Emery Moore Emery Moore 5'10" | S North Central | 2024 State IN , is part of the setting tandem that will make North Central a team to be reckoned with next fall. I’m also pretty sure she’s grown a bit since last spring, and after her showing at our PrepDig Top 250 a few weeks ago, I’m convinced she’s getting better. She can run a 5-1, be an attacker in a modified 6-2, or just play right side and block everyone. With a little more training and a little more strength, she’ll be the must-have volley dork that colleges wish they had seen earlier.
Isabelle Poehlein Isabelle Poehlein 6'2" | RS Zionsville | 2024 State IN , 6-2 RS, Team Indiana, Zionsville
This is not just some run-of-the-mill big that is an average player who likes basketball more. Isabelle is a left-handed banger who can hit every angle and block everyone. Miss Poehlein is getting stronger daily, and will be the starting right side for TI’s 16-1 this spring. Her size, obviously, helps. However, her ability to adjust to bad sets is something that usually takes years to learn. In her case, she’s already smooth enough to make upper level adjustments and find ways to put balls away regularly. And if I’m not mistaken, she can throw hands up to help when the setter takes the first ball. Does anyone need a six-foot-plus lefty hammer who has multiple skills?
