The middles in the 2024 class are big and physical at the net. This class has a deep pool of talented middles. Three of the top middles at Top 250 will all play on the same team this club season with L2.
Here are some of the top middle blockers at Prep Dig Top 250.
Kaela Chingwa Kaela Chingwa 6'3" | MB North Branch | 2024 State MI | 6’2 MB | North Branch
Chingwa has been on my radar for quite sometime this season. With a little more confidence on the court, Chingwa can become one of the premier middles in the state. All day she was impressive with her block, her strongest attribute. And when the timing is right, Chingwa can be one of the most efficient attackers in the gym.
Avry Nelson Avry Nelson 6'3" | MB Northville | 2024 State MI | 6’3 MB | Northville/L2
Nelson was one of the most athletic middles in the gym Saturday. She impressed me with her ability to adapt to any set and make an impactful play. She has a good vision of the court and was able to hit some pretty gnarly shots. Her blocking looks to be an incoming attribute, but at her size, she has great potential.
Allison Pilat Allison Pilat 6'2" | OH Plymouth Christian | 2024 State MI | 6’1 MB | Plymouth Christian/Michigan Elite
Pilat is another very athletic middle in the 2024 class. One of the heaviest arms of the group, Pilat was packing heat in her swings. She’s quite raw and with more work on shot selections, moving her attack around the court. Pilat can really make some noise this club season.
Marianna Rivera | 6’4 MB | Williamston/L2
Rivera is big and her volleyball skills are just as big. She doesn’t have to do much with her 6’4 frame, but Rivera showed to have one of the toughest blocks to attack against on Saturday. She takes up a lot of space at the net and is quite the physical blocker. While setters struggle throughout the day to find the right height for Rivera, when they found it, it was automatic.
Johanna Tillman Johanna Tillman 6'2" | MB Dakota | 2024 State MI | 6’2 MB | Dakota/Legacy
The name of the game for Tillman is jump high and go fast. Tillman was a fun piece to watch on Saturday, not only is she able to jump out of the gym, but she can do it at the snap of a finger! As high as she gets, she doesn’t need to slam the ball to earn points.
Karlie Vogelheim Karlie Vogelheim 5'11" | MB Brighton | 2024 State MI | 6’0 MB | Brighton/L2
Vogelheim was one of the smoothest players on the court on Saturday. Her transition footwork and arm swing seemed picture perfect throughout the day. As a smaller middle, she is able to make some wicked shots at the ball while taking up a lot of space at the net.
