Some of the athletes listed may have played multiple positions on the court, but we have chosen them for the positions that we think they excelled at the most.
We are proud to announce our Second Team All State in this article series. We will be posting a few athletes at a time in order to give enough credit to each player. We are very proud of each player and everyone who helped them reach their goals this year. These players are being picked due to their individual performance on their teams this high school season. This next article in this series is devoted to the Setters. These two young ladies are our picks for 2nd Team All- State.
2nd Team All State Selection: Setter
Miller McDonald Miller McDonald 5'8" | S Lake Highlands | 2023 State #156 Nation TX [2023] 5-8 Setter (HS: Lake Highlands/Club: Madfrog/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Miller is currently ranked as the 10th overall prospect and the 2nd ranked setter in the 2023 class according to our State Rankings. We have written multiple articles over the course of the year about her that stated, “Her work ethic at such a young age is inspiring to watch. The ball comes off of her hands so smoothly that you can tell she was born to set. The fluidity of her arms during her follow through is a sight to see. She possesses great footwork to track the ball down and has excellent posture throughout her set. The set that truly raises my eyebrows is when she goes against flow behind her to a right side hitter. It usually takes years to master that set as it is one of the most difficult to perfect. Miller is pretty close to getting it perfect. It is safe to say that this young lady is one of the next great Dallas area setters. I suggest you college coaches take note NOW. I am more excited to cover this young lady because she has a drive that is not seen in many players. Everyone on this State Rankings list has something about them that stands out. The drive to be the best is alive and well inside of Miller. And it is this that will keep her on our radar for the next few years. She has every tool in her toolbox that will allow her to move up the rankings. We have been watching very closely and she is ready to take the Lake Highlands volleyball program over for the next few years. Please help us congratulate her on moving up to be one of the top ten volleyball players in the State of Texas. We will be watching closely as she switched clubs to the famed Madfrog volleyball club. She led her Lake Highlands varsity team to a playoff birth this year and also earned the MVP of district 7-6A with her play.” This was also her third year in a row to be named MVP of her school team. She has done nothing but improve every year and show just how dangerous she is from the setter position. This young lady is the real deal. We have been following Miller very closely and she is extremely deserving of earning 2nd Team All-State from our publication. Please help us congratulate her on the wonderful achievement.
2nd Team All State Selection: Setter
Caroline Mann [2023] 5-5 Setter (HS: Coronado/Verbal: Uncommitted)
Caroline is currently an unranked prospect in the 2023 class according to our Prep Dig State Rankings. She is a quick setter from Coronado High School from the El Paso area. We wrote about her when we nominated her in November and here is a refresher of what we stated, “This young lady has been on absolute fire this season. She currently has 1,227 assists, which is good enough to be the 2ndmost in the entire state, which includes other juniors in public and private schools across Texas. She also has 250 digs, 31 aces and also 45 kills on the year. They went 27-14 overall and 11-4 in district but caught fire once in the playoffs and have made it all the way to the Regional Quarters this week. Miss Mann is a huge reason for their success as she is in total control of the offense. While smaller in size, she makes up for it with speed and intelligence. I love how well she reads the ball off of before the passer even touches it to set her up for the delivery. We are going to keep our eye on this young lady as she has been so productive in high school. She is a gifted volleyball player who has earned the right to be nominated for All-State consideration. Please congratulate her on the accomplishment.” These stats were amazing from Miss Mann this year and it is this reason why we have chosen to award her. Please congratulate her on earning the inaugural 2nd Team All-State award from our publication due to her amazing assist totals. She proved herself on the court and we are so proud to honor her with the award. Please help us congratulate her on the special achievement.
