This Saturday, the biggest event in the region will be the H-Town Showdown #1, a tournament that will feature nearly 200 teams in the 16s, 17s and 18s Divisions and that will be played across three clubs in the area – the Absolute Volleyball Academy (AVA), the FAST Complex and the Texas Tornados .
We’ve picked some very interesting players that will be on the court in the event to highlight and today we’ll list some of the promising outside hitters:
Bailey Hanner Bailey Hanner 6'2" | OH Fort Bend Christian | 2022 State TX – Skyline 18 Royal – HS: Fort Bend Christian Academy – 2022
Bailey Hanner Bailey Hanner 6'2" | OH Fort Bend Christian | 2022 State TX is one of the many special talents of the loaded Skyline 18 Royal team. Fresh from leading her high school team Fort Bend Christian to their first Texas Association of Parochial and Private High Schools (TAPPS) State Championship title. She ended her senior season with 527 kills, 495 passes, 236 digs 59 aces and 45 blocks. A 6’2” prospect, Hanner is extremely powerful offensively and, even though she’s mostly used on the left, can play on the right or the middle and perform well. She ranks 63rd in our 2022 Prep Dig State Rankings and has committed to Texas State.
Koryn Johnson – Texas Tornados 17 Adidas – HS: Foster – 2023
An electric and highly-efficient outside hitter, Koryn Johnson produced really well for Foster during the last high school season despite her limited size at 5’9”. Her athleticism, built during years of work as a track and field student-athlete, helps her a lot at the net and she took advantage of it to register 261 kills to go with 339 digs and 53 blocks. Johnson is the kind of hitter who doesn’t get fazed or intimidated when she has a big block in front of her and is excellent at making decisions and finding ways to score when that happens.
Bailee Rae Payne – AVA TX 16 Adidas – HS: Ross S Sterling – 2024
An explosive hitter who can play on either side of the net, Bailee Rae Payne has a bright future ahead of her. Standing at 5’10”, she’s extremely physical and can get really high up at the net even when she’s not able to make a full approach. Her arm is also really quick and allows her to find very sharp angles on offense. Payne also has a solid defensive game and for her it’s just about refining the little things on her game and continue on the path she is.
