Here are the top teams after the first weekend of the Badger Region Power League.
Wisconsin Premier 18 Teal (6-0 Record)
This team has a lot of talent led by gritty setter and leader Elise Gillen Elise Gillen 5'9" | S Slinger | 2022 State WI (2022). This team competed at a very high level. And while their roster has not been uploaded into AES yet, they have a lot of talent across all positions. This team beat other talented teams during the first weekend of the BRPL including FC Elite 17 White and 414 17 Elite.
414 18 Elite (6-0 Record)
This team has an incredible amount of chemistry on the court. This comes from their incredible competitiveness and their years of playing on the court together. Setter Paige Yelmene Paige Yelmene 5'8" | S DSHA | 2022 State WI (2022) is a key player and leader on this team. She moves the ball around with practiced ease and knows her hitters very well. Grace Martens (2022) and Ashley Habermehl (2022) are both great six rotation outsides who have power and control over the ball. Libero Hadley Strohkirch Hadley Strohkirch 5'8" | DS/L Oconomowoc | 2022 State WI (2022) is superb on serve receive and defense.
I AM VBC 17 Red (6-0 Record)
This is another team that has a lot of history and chemistry together. Middle hitter Lilly Bandle Lilly Bandle 6'1" | MB West Bend East | 2023 State WI (2023) is explosive on the court and puts up a massive block as well. She is an energizer and motivator on her team. While I did not get a chance to see them in person, their setters Sydney Hoeft (2023) and Emily Dickman (2023) are both very talented at moving the ball around and using their hitters well.
River City 17 Blue (6-0 Record)
This team will make big moves this season. They are well-rounded and have a gritty defense. Setter Olivia Bartels Olivia Bartels 5'8" | S Lakeside Lutheran | 2023 State WI (2023) is incredibly talented. She moves the ball around and is aggressive on the court. She places the ball well and isn’t afraid to go on the offensive herself in the front row. She is very consistent and rock for this team. Kylei Braatz (2023) is another key player on this team. She is a six-rotation outside hitter with a lot of power and adds a lot of value in the back row as well.
Wisconsin Juniors 17-1 (5-1 Record)
This Juniors’ team is going to be incredibly good this year. Abby Alan Abby Alan 6'0" | MB Burlington | 2023 State WI (2023) is a powerhouse 6-rotation outside who makes great plays in tough moments. She is an energizer on the court and is effective in every rotation. Another pin, Lauren Shaw (2023) has a ton of power and a high swing that hits over a lot of blocks. Setter, Cate Yunker Cate Yunker 5'10" | S The Prairie School | 2023 State WI (2023), is great at bettering the ball and can push the ball pin to pin from nearly anywhere on the court. Natalie Harris Natalie Harris 5'7" | DS/L Racine Case | 2023 State WI (2023) is a smart and scrappy libero who has great form and a high volleyball IQ.
