Continue ReadingThe culminating event for the CEVA season is the Regional tournament. All teams participating in CEVA Power League compete for their final standing of the season. For this series, we will be spotlighting athletes from teams that finished in the top 20 for the 18U/16U division who were nominated by their club coach, or a club coach from another team.
Without further ado, here are the 2023 attackers that had stellar performances.
Kennedy Abbas, 6’1”, MB, The Dalles High School, Aspire NW 17-1
Abbas is one of the Aspire NW 17-1 team’s starting middle blockers. She is relied on heavily for her attack out of the middle. She runs an arsenal of quick plays and racks up plenty of kills for the team. Over Regionals weekend, this was no different, and Abbas helped her team see success over the course of the two-day tournament.
Maddy Abraham Maddy Abraham 5'11" | MB Nelson | 2023 State OR , 5’10”, MB/OH, Nelson High School, Chaos 17-1

Abraham is a utility attacker for the Chaos 17-1 team. She is a critical aspect of the team’s success and is always needed on the court. However, she is eager to fill in where ever needed and fulfilled many different roles over the course of the season. She saw success as both a middle blocker and outside hitter, depending on the lineup used.
Reagan Anderson Reagan Anderson 5'10" | OH Horizon Christian | 2023 State OR , 5’9”, OH, Horizon Christian School, Volleyball Alliance 18-Monica

Anderson is a well-rounded six rotation outside hitter for the Volleyball Alliance 18-Monica team. A top attacker, passer, and defender, she brings consistent play to the team. A smart but lethal attacker, she is not afraid to take big swings at those big moments. Anderson is relied on heavily for her solid all-around play and Regionals was no different.
Emma Alewine, 6’1”, MB, Wilsonville High School, Volleyball Alliance 18-Monica

Alewine has shown steady play all club season as one of Volleyball Alliance 18-Monica’s starting middle blockers. However, she had an outstanding showing at Regionals. Alewine tapped into a level of play she had not shown prior. She was a top hitter on the weekend. Play aside, she brought energy, enthusiasm, and tons of communication.
Alize Bakker Alize Bakker 5'7" | DS/L Westview | 2023 State OR , 5’7”, OH/DS, Westview High School, North Pacific Juniors Portland 18-1
Bakker was a late addition to the North Pacific Juniors Portland 18-1 team. However, since joining the team as made an immediate impact as an all-around outside hitter. Over Regionals, her coach commended her on being outstanding at every aspect of being an outside hitter. She lead the team in kills, was excellent on serve recieve, and defensively kept the team in rallies.
Halsey Brumitt Halsey Brumitt 5'11" | OH Clackamas | 2023 State OR , 5’10”, OH/RS, Clackamas High School, Athena 18-1 Gold
Committed: Dominican University
Brummit is utilized as an outside or right-side hitter, depending on the lineup, for Athena 18-1 Gold. However, she is always in the lineup. She has an attack-centered mindset, meaning she relentlessly attacks the ball until it hits the floor. Her coach commended her on never being afraid to take big swings on out-of-system balls. Because of this she scores and racks up points.
Brooksie Isham, 5’11”, OH/MB, South Salem High School, North Pacific Juniors 17-1 National
Committed: U.S. Air Force Academy
Isham has transitioned back from the middle to the outside this club season for North Pacific Juniors 17-1 National. Over high school season, she trained as a middle blocker but she has locked into improving her back row play, making her an indispensable six-rotation outside hitter. She has proved unstoppable from either pin given her high vertical jump and fast arm swing.
Kalista Lukovich Kalista Lukovich 6'0" | OH Nelson | 2023 State OR , 6’0”, OH, Nelson High School, Chaos 18-1 Elite

Lukovich is an integral part of this Chaos 18-1 Elite group, and was last season as well, playing with a bulk of this team on last year’s Chaos 17-1 Elite team. Their primary attacker, playing all-around, she is utilized for her attack anywhere on the court. She brings steady ball control to the back-row and a mean swing to the left pin when in the front row.
