Continue ReadingThe culminating event for the CEVA season is the Regional tournament. All teams participating in CEVA Power League compete for their final standing of the season. For this series, we will be spotlighting athletes from teams that finished in the top 20 for the 18U/16U division who were nominated by their club coach, or a club coach from another team.
Without further ado, here are the 2023 attackers that had stellar performances.
Olivia Maulding Olivia Maulding 6'2" | MB LaSalle Catholic | 2023 State #90 Nation OR , 6’2”, MB, LaSalle Catholic College Preparatory, Athena 17-1 Gold
Maulding is one of the starting middle blockers for the Athena 17-1 Gold team. She has shown significant improvement over this past club season. Her coach commended her on being their best presence on the net over Regionals. She hit on average almost .300 and led the team in blocks. He also noted her serving capabilities as being insanely lethal. Averaging an ace per match and usually going on at least a 3-point serving run each time she steps on the service line, Maulding can do some damage.
Presley Nippert Presley Nippert 6'1" | RS Kelso | 2023 State WA , 6’0”, RS, Kelso High School, Athena 18-1 Gold

Nippert is a lethal right-side attacker for the Athena 18-1 Gold team. A leftie she thrives on the right side. With a heavy arm and the ability to shut anyone down on the block, she proves unstoppable on the net. Nippert was given praise for being able to influence and change the momentum in any match with her mega kills and infectious energy
Morgan Olsen Morgan Olsen 5'11" | MB Jesuit | 2023 State OR , 5’10”, MB, Jesuit High School, Athena 18-1 Gold

Olsen is a bouncy and athletic middle blocker for the Athena 18-1 Gold team. Given her athleticism and hops, she is quick and terminal in the middle. She also puts up a solid block and moves well laterally to block at the pins. Her play greatly contributed to the team’s success over Regionals weekend.
Aspen Olson, 6’2”, MB, Washougal High School, Aspire NW 17-1

Olson is one of the starting middle blockers for the Aspire NW 17-1 team. Her coach commended her for being a game-changer for the team. She puts up a major block and is a consistent offensive terminator.
Amyah Semau Amyah Semau 5'10" | OH West Linn | 2023 State OR , 5’10”, OH, West Linn High School, NPJ Salem 17-1 National

Semau had a breakout first tournament back after battling an ankle injury. A six-rotation outside hitter, she was the kill leader all weekend for the NPJ 17-1 National team. Her coach commended her outstanding defensive effort and establishing herself as an offensive threat from the back row as well as the front row. She was their go-to hitter and greatly contributed to the team’s top-five finish.
Jillian Stein Jillian Stein 5'8" | OH Bend | 2023 State OR , 5’7”, OH/DS, Bend Senior High School, NPJ Bend 17-1 National
Committed: Austin Peay State University (Sand)
Stein was a constant threat for the NPJ Bend 17-1 National, showcasing steady and dominating play as their six-rotation outside hitter. Over Regionals weekend, she hit an impressive .323, racking up 57 kills. She also led the team in digs. With an insane vertical jump, Stein proves lethal on the attack. A well-rounded player, she also brings sound ball control and lights out defense.
Madie Vaughn Madie Vaughn 5'9" | OH Ridgeview | 2023 State OR , 5’8”, OH, Ridgeview High School, NPJ Bend 17-1 National

Vaughn exhibited some stellar all-around play over Regionals weekend as a six-rotation outside hitter for the NPJ Bend 17-1 National team. Over the course of two days, she racked up over 50 kills, hitting an average of .297. She also displayed some relentless defense, her coach noted.
Brooke Womack, 5’10”, OH, Sandy High School, Aspire NW 17-1
Womack was an unstoppable outside attacker for the Aspire NW 17-1 team over Regionals weekend and over the entirety of the season. She has an impressively fast arm and a high reach on the ball, so she racks up loads of kills from anywhere on the court. Womack has exhibited some insane improvement over this club season.
