Continue ReadingIt was quite the week for the teams in Michigan down in Orlando, Florida. Before the 15s division was taken by storm by the mitten state and the 17s division saw Legacy win their second consecutive title. It was FaR Out 18 Black that got the party started with the winning ways.
In victorious fashion, FaR Out marched all the way to the title game at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The championship game saw its jitters shake out from the winning team. After Sports Performance took the opener with a score of 21-25, FaR Out would bounce back with the reverse of 25-21. It was then where the intensity would really get high.
You would’ve thought these two teams were at home given the crowds that they all managed. These two teams are from the midwest, from Grand Rapids, MI, and Aurora, Ill, respectfully. Between the other teams from both programs and their families combined, this made for one rowdy crowd and a packed arena!
Back to the match, the two were duking it out early before Sports Performance took a mid-set lead, seemingly done for. But wouldn’t ya know, storming back came FaR Out. Going on to tie the game at 13-13, the next two points showed off just why Maradith O’Gorman was awarded AAU 18 Premier MVP. Between an overpass hammer and then a wicked line shot on the right side, it was the Michigan State bound O’Gorman who sealed the deal for FaR Out.
En route to a 10-2 record and the championship, O’Gorman was joined by a few teammates on the podium earning All-American honors. The Killer Kennedy’s of FaR Out were awarded All-American honors after some amazing performances throughout the tournament. MB Kennedy Arp Kennedy Arp 6'0" | MB South Christian | 2023 State MI (Valparaiso) and OH Kennedy Louisell Kennedy Louisell 6'0" | OH Forest Hills Northern | 2023 State #140 Nation MI (Uncommitted) were two of the biggest puzzle pieces in the success.
Particularly in the title match, the Kennedy’s were huge, especially Louisell. Virtually unstoppable, there was no answer to Louisell on the left side or on her famous two ball slam. Easily with a double digit kill performance in the match, Louisell proved to be one of the biggest uncalled-for names in the 2023 class. Meanwhile Arp is proving to be an even bigger steal than we thought for Valparaiso. The two will head up this 18 Black squad for yet another season in hopes to lead FaR Out to another national title run next season!
This FaR Out group was lead by big bunch of all-stars taking their talents to the next level including O’Gorman (Michigan State), Leah Rogers (Ohio), Emily Struckmeyer (Charleston Southern), Renee Brines (Northwood), Carlina Bender (Eastern Michigan). and Olivia Howlett (Michigan State/Academics). What’s most exciting too is that this squad will see a big core group return next season alongside the Killer Kennedy’s including Corrie Wisser Corrie Wisser 5'10" | S Hopkins | 2023 State MI (Ferris State), Ella McAllister Ella McAllister 5'4" | DS/L Marshall | 2023 State MI (Uncommitted) and Paige Sanders Paige Sanders 6'0" | MB Grandville | 2023 State MI (Uncommitted).
Congratulations FaR Out!
