The Class of 2023 already has one committed to the SEC, but there should be more finding their home soon.
Here’s a look at the top five uncommitted liberos that college programs should be going after.
Kaitlyn Hoffman Kaitlyn Hoffman 5'8" | DS/L Novi | 2023 State #81 Nation MI , Novi/Legacy
Michigan has produced some great defenders in recent years and Hoffman certainly fits the bill. She’s shown the ability to play multiple positions, but the back row is her home. She’s very instinctive and quick with her play and also remains very composed and focused. Hoffman has been up against the best the nation has to offer and performed at a high level. No question she can be a key piece for a D1 program.
Alexis Smith Alexis Smith 5'4" | DS/L Anchor Bay | 2023 State MI , Anchor Bay/Legacy
Another talented defender out of Legacy, Smith provides a lot of energy from the back row. She’s ambitious with her play and is determined to get to every ball. Smith has put in the effort in recent years to raise her game and her 2022 club experience should be raising it even further. Her consistent performances should be catching the eyes of college coaches.
Kendall White Kendall White 5'6" | DS/L St. Johns | 2023 State MI , St. Johns/Five:1
White is very active with her feet, she’s never holding a spot for more than a blink of the eye. She’s got active eyes and is able to stay locked into a play and anticipate where things are developing toward. Combine that with a strong athletic dynamic, and White is definitely a strong asset for a college program.
Lauren Heming Lauren Heming 5'6" | DS/L Marian | 2023 State MI , Marian/Legacy
Heming has been a key piece to the success of the Marian program in the last few years. She was thrown into the fire early in her prep career, but has managed to raise her game year after year. What stands out about Heming is that she’s played her best in the biggest matches. She shouldn’t be lacking in confidence heading into her senior year, and a college program should be confident in her skills.
Kalliann Cook Kalliann Cook 5'5" | DS/L Birch Run | 2023 State MI , Birch Run/Michigan Elite
Cook is another 2023 defender that has been the cornerstone of a varsity program for years. She’s a vocal leader on the floor and backs it up with her play as well. When Cook is talking, people are listening. That is an important intangible for the next level. Her ability on the floor speaks for itself. Cook is athletic, quick and willing to throw her body around to make a play.
