Did they lose a lot of seniors, did they gain some promising freshman? We will take a look at how these OVAC teams are looking during the summer leagues/open gyms.
The Crestview Rebels always seem to have a steady flow of quality player year after year. A few graduate, a few more start their high school career. Ending last season with an impressive 26-1 record, they are on track this season to continue that streak. They did lose a few key players, but in usual fashion, they have some younger players that will be stepping up.
Returning for the Rebels will be some big playmakers. Setter, Junior, Grace Auer Grace Auer 6'0" | OH Crestview | 2024 State OH will definitely be a plus for this team, she is a great setter with a level head. She is able to keep her teammates motivated and put up some very hittable sets. Also returning will be Sophmore, Abbey Emch Abbey Emch 6'4" | MB Crestview | 2025 State #122 Nation OH , a 6’3 middle that is able to do some damage in the front row as well as the back row. Her height will be a definite advantage for the team. These two also played club ball for the same Infinity team, so the connection between the two have gotten even better. They will be going to Nationals this year with their club team, which from what I have heard has never happened for this team before. We will be keeping an eye out for the duo at this years Nationals to be held in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In the back row, they will return DS/L, Junior, Emily Downey. She was a great asset in the back row last season, and I expect to see a lot of hustle from her in the upcoming season. The Rebels will get their first test against Champion on 8-25 as they kick off their season with an away match. It will be interesting to see if the Rebels can keep their winning streak going after losing 6 seniors from their roster. Will the younger players step up to the challenge? I am sure that they won’t have much trouble adjusting to the changes.
