The growth that we see from the players that continue playing on the off season is sometimes the key to the teams doing well. We are taking a look at the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference teams to get an idea of how they will look this upcoming season.
East Liverpool HS had a pretty good season last year, ending up with a 16-7 record. Losing 5 seniors from their roster, I don’t think that they will miss a beat. It seemed to be the younger player that were the game changers last season and they will be returning, which has to make their coach happy.
Returning for the Potters will be Junior, setter Faith Grafton Faith Grafton 5'6" | DS/L East Liverpool | 2024 State OH , who it seems may be switching roles this season and donning that Libero jersey. Great decision for the Potters, as Grafton is the Libero for her club team, Mintonette Sports and has really made a name for herself in the backrow. Also returning is fellow Junior, Kyia White, who led her team in kills last season. A middle hitter for the Potters and an Outside for her club team, Infinity. I am sure the Potters will be looking to them for leadership this season. Senior, Delani Ice will surely take over the setting role this year, she did a great job last season and I am curious to see the improvement made in the off season.
A few more players that stepped up toward the end of last season were Ayla Brown and Kenzie Headley, both going into their sophmore season. Brown made her way onto the varsity roster halfway through the season last year and immediately made an impact, she finished the season 2nd on the team in blocks. I expect Brown will be a key player for the Potters this season.
The Potters will start their season with a match against fellow OVAC team Steubenville Big Red. The Potters won both matches when they met up last season. Can they continue the winning streak against Big Red or will Steubenville surprise the Potters and give them their first loss of the season. We will find out on 8-23 when they meet up and kick off the high school season.
