It did not seem right to miss out on spotlighting spectacular athletes that had a stellar showing at the tournament just because the tournament was a little bit ago. With over 200 athletes in the 18 Open team, we have narrowed it down to 27 ALL-STARS. These 27 athletes proved themselves invaluable to their teams success over the three-day tournament.
Note – we are not spotlighting any 2022 athletes since their recruiting period is over so no 2022 athletes are included in this article.
Below are the six standout setters that made it on the 18U Open All-Star Team from the Emerald City Classic.
Kayleigh-Shay Chang l WVBA 17 Adidas l 2024 l 5’6” l S l Lake Washington High School
Chang ran a 5-1 for the WVBA 17 Adidas team over the weekend. With an incredible touch on the ball, she is a natural setter. Playing up, only in the class of 2024, the maturity she shows on the court is impressive. Also, she does an exceptional job hiding her setting location.
Ayla Grant Ayla Grant 5'7" | S Snohomish | 2023 State WA l WVBA 18 Adidas l 2023 l 5’9″ l S/DS l Snohomish High School
Grant confidently executed a 5-1 for the WVBA 18 Adidas team. A dynamic setter, she runs an incredibly fast-paced offense and establishes her middles early on. She is a spectacular jump setter with a quick release and does a good job hiding her set location. Her defensive game is stellar and is able to confidently step into a defensive specialist role if called upon.
Taylor Kieser l CRU U17 Baden l 2023 l 5’11 l S/RS l Selah High School
Committed: Corban University
Kieser ran a 5-1 for the CRU 17-1 team with a great sense of confidence. While a solid all-around setter, she shines in the front row. A leftie, her second ball attacking is lethal. Also, she puts up a formidable block, shutting down teams outside hitters. Her hand strength is exceptional, pushing the ball to the pins from anywhere on the court.
Elisabeth Levick l OJVA 16-1 Gold l 2024 l 6’1” l S/OH l Glencoe High School
Levick alternated between running a 5-1 and a 6-2 opposite 2024 Taylor Guerra Taylor Guerra 5'10" | S Westview | 2024 State OR , but was rarely seen off the court. She is a dynamic athlete and setter with solid all-around play. She runs an exceptionally fast offense executing with confidence. When not setting, her attacking is deadly, with an explosive approach and fast arm swing.
Mia Starr Mia Starr 5'10" | S Central Catholic | 2023 State #176 Nation OR l OJVA 17-1 Gold l 2023 l 5’10” l S l Central Catholic High School
Committed: University of California, Davis
Starr is the primary setter for the OJVA 17-1 Gold team. She is confident, calm, and collected on the court. She does an exceptional job running a fast offense and getting her middles involved. She has an incredibly fast release on the ball and hides her set location well. Her play was vital in the team finishing #1 in the ECC.
Krista Traynor l PS U17 Navy l 2023 l 5’10” l S/RS l Seattle Christian High School
Traynor executed a 6-2 offense opposite 2022 Sydney Bronson (Tacoma Community College). She does an outstanding job getting her hands on everything. With great hand strength, she does a good job setting against the grain. Also, she has a stellar jump float serve that garners plenty of aces and disruptions.
