This program allows athletes from the Badger Region who usually compete against each other all club season to come together and represent the entire Badger Region. This is an opportunity for exposure to college coaches and to play with and against some of the top talent in the country. Here is a look at our Badger Youth.
Hernandez moves the ball quickly from pin to pin as a setter, but her defensive movement usually catches your eye. She could be used as either a setter or defensive specialist because she won’t give up on the ball, even if she makes a late read or wrong first step. She goes “all in” for every ball.
Gardner has exploded onto our radar this spring after a standout performance at Badger Region Champs. From there she stood out at the Prep Dig Gauntlet and obviously impressed at the High Performance Camp this past week. Gardner does a great job taking pace off a hard driven attack, is solid in serve-receive, and she can flat-out compete with some of the best.
Spies is a true competitor, and she can run a 5-1 or still play 6 rotations in a 6-2 because she is that good of an attacker. She will be the setter for this team running a 5-1. She led Capital 17 Adidas to win the Rockin’ Rockford AAU Grand Prix and the Juniors Grand Slam. Spies has this innate ability to ramp her game up to another level in the clutch. Her scrappiness and vision, along with a killer combination of athletic attackers, will be fun to watch in Tulsa.
Parker is probably one of the biggest surprises in this squad coming out of Bay Port and playing for One Wisconsin Bay. I certainly didn’t know her name until camp. She is a classic middle that provides a solid block and a lot of quick explosive power when she connects with her setter.
Kopacz is a powerful attacker and has the ability to play six rotations, as well as just about any position you need. She most recently was found setting for her Pewaukee team at the Prep Dig Sizzle. For the HP team, she will be key in providing a big swing from the pins or, when out-of-system, from the back court.
Highlights
Ring has a lot of athletic ability and has been seen playing on both pins. Most recently I’ve seen her on the right side more, and her physical presence alone makes attackers nervous. She provides a great option for the setter and sets up a really intimidating block.
Koning is a top recruit available in the Class of 2024 and a “go-to” pin hitter for Capital 16 Adidas. She is a physical presence to the net at 6’1 and has more than just a power to her game. Koning is well rounded and can play on either pin, as well as being highly reliable in serve-receive. There are a lot of offensive weapons on this HP team, but Koning will be depended upon as an experienced veteran as one of the few returners. This fall, Koning, Ring, and the Middleton squad will be a team to watch out for.
Highlights
Justman may have been one of the best jumpers in the gym this past week. She was an unknown until she stormed the Resch with her W-C squad and earned Division 4 All-State and All-Tournament Team this past fall. This opportunity will be great exposure for Justman to play against some of the best while in Tulsa. As an attacker, she is tough to stop, since she regularly goes over most blocks. Justman will be the “go-to” hitter for Wonewoc-Center, who will be trying to make it back to the Resch in the fall.
Myhre was the”go-to” hitter out of the middle for VHawk. And I don’t specify which team for Vhawk because I saw her play for quite a few; in each one, she found a way to make an impact. Playing against this high level competition will only help elevate her game. She has height and long limbs to go with it, making her a solid option out of the middle or the right side.
Kiepert is extremely athletic and is very quick laterally from pin to pin. She does a great job closing the block to make her defenders’ jobs easier. FC Elite 16 Navy ended their club season on a high note winning the 16 National Division at USAV Nationals in Indy. This upcoming fall Kiepert will be on a very athletic and energetic Xavier squad that could be a real darkhorse that no one sees coming. They certainly have the pieces.
