The Circle City was chock full of the best of the best in the country and some even came to show off at our Prep Dig National showcase last Thursday.
Basking in all of this talent, we’re going to be breaking down some of the best from the showcase. To the playmakers who run the show, the setters were all in and ballin’ out in Indy.
Here are some of the best setters from the 2022 USAV x Prep Dig Showcase.
Julia Johnson – 6’0 S – Boiler Juniors
I loved seeing this player move around the court and dish the ball out to just about anywhere with no problem. Johnson is a very clean setter with a higher contact point and can be very deceptive with her sets.
Ava Houser – 5’9 S – Tejas
This player has some great mechanics when it comes to the setting position. Houser moves amazingly around the court, even in scramble situations. She’s in constant movement and can cover the short ball defense very well.
Samantha Valadez – 5’9 S – Alamo
A little on the smaller size but Valadez brings a lot of athleticism to the setter position. She has a great delivery with a consistent location and smooth tempo. She also has a great eye for adjustment to better the ball for the hitter.
Hailey Newell – 5’9 S – Red Rock
I liked this setter for a few reasons. A big reason was her court demeanor. Newell is a type of setter who is calm and collected, never too rattled, something I love to see at the position. She is as consistent as they come with her location.
Carly Dossett – 5’10 S -STVA
Another dynamic player at the setter position, Dossett is also very strong. No matter how far off or wide she was, Dossett was running a great tempo ball to the pins and staying in system as much as possible.
Ryleigh Sander – 5’5 S – PVA
We have quite a few versatile setters in this list and Sander is one of them. A player who could very easily double as a libero if needed, her ball control is elite. She’s a natural leader on the court which is huge for either position and she loves to run the middle.
Julia Owens – 5’6 S – Aspire
Talk about pushing tempo, Owens is another player who loves to run a faster offense and is strong enough to keep that consistency no matter where she is on the court.
Isabelle DeVall – 5’6 S – Pittsburgh Elite
These ladies really came out to play because this is yet another player who can run the game with some pace. DeVall can run a very smooth and quick offense. She’s a consistent player on the court in terms of skills and personality.
Joanna Song – 5’7 S – Academy
A theme for this group was quite obviously, tempo. Song was another player who loves to go at it and go at it fast. She can run a very dynamic offense, pushing the ball all over the court and using her leaping abilities to aid in that speed.
Kamryn Clay – 5’8 S – United
I really liked this player’s overall game. As a setter, she’s a fluid mover with a love for the tempo set along the net. But i think Clay could also be a great utility as a defensive player as well, given her defense and speed.
Kristine Bakhad – 5’8 S/OPP – Absolute
Speaking of utility, this player could be a setter that no blocker can track or keep up with. Or she could be smashing balls anywhere along the net. Bakhad put a lot on the table during the showcase and we were eating all of it up.
