Sometimes I have so many notes, I just can’t get them all into articles immediately following an event, so I pick a time to find just the right piece for the player. Since the 2023’s will be kicking off their senior season, let’s look at twenty 2023’s who are all from the Midwest.
River Falls has a lineup full of experience and some great ball control. This is a program that is very fundamentally sound and with a ‘bro like Banitt, they can put a pass on point to keep their offense in-system. Banitt was also the libero for Kokoro 17-1 who won the 17 Premier Division at both the Big City Luau and the JVA World Challenge. Banitt not only gives them a first contact they can count on, but also doesn’t give up on the ball and is the definition of pursuit.
Jeanquart does such a great job moving quickly along the net and puts up droolworthy sets. She’s a smooth distributor, but she seems like the type of athlete where you can put her in just about any position on the court and she will find a way to contribute. She keeps the ball high as a setter and has a strong connection with pin hitters Hazel Cook Hazel Cook 5’11” | OH Seymour | 2024 State WI and Myakel Kapalko Myakel Kapalko 6’0″ | OH Notre Dame | 2023 State WI .
Flynn has established herself as a force in the middle and on the right side with her blocking and attacking. She can make solid contact on the ball and knows right where the ball should go. Flynn proved herself against some elite middles this club season as FC Elite made their National run. She can also take some monster swings from either pin.
Moen is a great athlete, and I enjoyed seeing her play for Hortonville at the Prep Dig Sizzle in July. She is a six-rotation outside hitter who will score from anywhere on the court, and along with Marin Grossman Marin Grossman 5’10” | OH Hortonville | 2024 State WI , they provide a lot of ball control and quickness to the ball tempo wherever it may be headed. Moen hit some sharp angles on the outside pin.
Arno is another left-handed setter who has found a number of sneaky ways to score. Watching her play at the Sizzle, she was very athletic, got her hands to the ball, tried different tempos, and helped direct traffic with her teammates. Arno was super smooth, smart, and a key piece for Seymour.
This is a scrappy player who is fast, physical, and everywhere on the floor for Pacelli. Sobczak can set, pass, and take a swing – she is capable of doing plenty of great things for Pacelli. One of her top attackers will be Casey Vaughan Casey Vaughan 5’5″ | OH Pacelli | 2024 State WI , who can really put some heat on the ball.
Dragani is a setter who blockers need to watch closely. She knows how to run an offense and when to call her own number. Dragani is a strong athlete who can put up a solid block on the right side as well as take a decent swing. Her all-around game can cause plenty of issues for her opponents. Catholic Memorial has a strong group of athletes who can really move the ball and wear their opponents down.
