There was a lot to consider, like the program history, what the high school coaches are predicting, and who will be returning in 2022. So without further ado, here are the top six of the early season Minnesota Class AAAA Power Rankings.
#6 – Lakeville North – The Panthers made it to the X in 2021, won the Class AAAA Consolation Final, and posted a 24-10 record. They will look to the young up-and-comer Rayna Christianson to terminate the ball. Temple commit, Ava Blascziek Ava Blascziek 5'10" | S Lakeville North | 2023 State #198 Nation MN , can distribute the ball with ease and gets all of her attackers involved. Sidney Wissbrod Sidney Wissbrod 5'6" | DS/L Lakeville North | 2023 State MN will lead the defense and provide the first contact to keep this squad in-system.
#5 – Eagan ‘ last=”]’ last=”]’ last=”] – 2021 resulted in a 25-4 record and falling to a gritty East Ridge team. They will have a very dominant young middle, Keira Schmidt Keira Schmidt 6'4" | MB Eagan | 2025 State #86 Nation MN , ready to make some waves this season.
#4 – Chaska – This squad was 1 match shy of making it to the X in 2021 and posted a solid 22-8 record. Concordia-St. Paul commit, Ella Christ Ella Christ 6'0" | OH Chaska | 2023 State MN , will be returning, along with Minnesota State Mankato commit, Avery Rosenberg Avery Rosenberg 6'1" | MB Chaska | 2023 State MN , to power the Hawk’s offense. It will be interesting to see if they can make it out of a tough section this year!
#3 – Champlin Park – Champlin Park was knocked out of the tournament by Wayzata in the Section Championship and brought their season to an end at 23-7. I think they’ve got some unfinished business for the likes of lefty Carly Gilk Carly Gilk 6'2" | RS Champlin Park | 2025 State #27 Nation MN and setter Reese Axness Reese Axness 5'9" | S Champlin Park | 2025 State MN . They also return a defensive dynamo in Sara Moberg Sara Moberg 5'9" | DS/L Champlin Park | 2023 State MN .
#2 – East Ridge – The Raptors took 2nd to Wayzata in the Class AAAA Championship in 2021. Their record was 23-10, and they will return the well-rounded pin hitter, Hadley Burger Hadley Burger 6'0" | RS East Ridge | 2024 State MN . The experienced setter, Macey Spolidoro Macey Spolidoro 5'10" | S East Ridge | 2024 State MN , will also return, along with the heavy swings of Mikayla McDougall Mikayla McDougall 6'0" | OH East Ridge | 2023 State MN and Kelby Opland Kelby Opland 6'0" | MB East Ridge | 2023 State MN . They have a very solid first contact coming from Ellenor Crimmins Ellenor Crimmins 5'6" | DS/L East Ridge | 2023 State MN .
#1 – Wayzata – This isn’t a huge surprise, as they were the Class AAAA champs in 2021 going undefeated on the season, and they return a lot of star power. Minnesota commit, Stella Swenson Stella Swenson 6'1" | S Wayzata | 2024 State #8 Nation MN , will have plenty of weapons to feed this fall. Avery Jesewitz Avery Jesewitz 6'4" | OH Wayzata | 2024 State #175 Nation MN will look at taking on a bigger workload after the graduation of some senior pin hitters. Meanwhile, Minnesota commit, Olivia Swenson Olivia Swenson 6'3" | OH Wayzata | 2024 State #98 Nation MN , will be working to make her way onto the roster after being out due to injury last season. Cal commit, Sophia Johnson Sophia Johnson 5'9" | DS/L Wayzata | 2023 State MN , will be going for the odd-colored jersey and a longer court presence.
