Players coming back in bigger and stronger than when they left. How will the teams adjust to losing players and what will they do with the newcomers?
The Celina Bulldogs will be a fun team to watch this season, as they return most of their big impact players. Leading the team last year, and being named Player of the Year, Senior Brooklyn Bourne will return and will be the Bulldogs go-to player again this season. She is a very aggressive player with a powerful swing and is able to make big plays when they need her. We will surely see her step up this season and lead her team to another winning season. Also returning is Senior setter, Payton Burtke, continuing her great connection with her team and running the offense with high energy. She is a great communicator on the court and is able to get the ball to her big hitters. One of those being, Senior, Amelia Lutz, who was second last season in kills on the team and another big presence at the net for the Bulldogs.
To round out the expected playmakers this season will be defensive specialists, Lily Sunderhaus and Sarah Giesige. Their team will be counting on them to make those big plays in the back court and keep their team in-system. They are quick laterally and able to get their feet to the ball, keeping the ball off the floor and giving their team a chance to swing away.
Last season, the Bulldogs finished the season 9-1 in conference play and 19-5 overall. They will start this season off with a home match against Jay County on 8/22. Winning their conference last season, it’s looking like they may repeat this season. Bringing back their key players will definitely be benefit for Celina. They are coming back strong on both offense and defense and it looks like they will be a tough team to beat.
